Tantawan Study Program Friends of Thai Daughters created the Tantawan Study Program in 2005 to enable highly motivated students to continue their high school education and prepare for university studies. Students are enrolled in the prestigious Varee Chiang Mai School, a private institution offering a demanding curriculum to prepare students for university studies. Tantawan students represent several Hill Tribes, including Akha, Hmong, Tai-Yai and Lisu. The students study math, physics, English, French and Chinese. Students consistently rank in the top 20% of of their classes and are well liked by their teachers and fellow students. In March 2008, our first two "Daughters" will graduate from Varee Chiang Mai school. They plan to continue their studies at university under the auspices of Friends of Thai Daughters. Friends of Thai Daughters provides housing for the students in "Baan Tantawan" - "Sunflower House" - where they live together under the care and supervision of their guardian, Kru Taewtaew. During their free time, they participate in Girl Scouts, basketball and dance classes. They also perform community service and volunteer at a local AIDS orphanage. They are eager and enthusiastic students who are grateful for the opportunity to continue their studies.
